Tribalism Is Sooo Yesterday. Ditch It!

Inside: PERMISSION in Z-Brand Spotlight

🧘‍♀️ Zen Note

If you’ve been following the news lately, you’d have noticed the tension that surrounded Nigeria’s most recent presidential election and maybe got a whiff of the tribalism debate that broke out as well. Tribalism has been around for a very long time, but it seems to be a side consequence of the "bubble parenting" we received, particularly among young people today.

In a culturally diverse city like Lagos, it’s shocking to see how much tribalism is leading people to claim ownership of the city thereby ostracizing non-indigenous people. We need to shed the “us vs. them” mentality that makes us see others who are different from us as the enemy or part of a group, instead of mere unique individuals. And we need to encourage one another to embrace diversity in our social circles and our communities.

Quickie of the Week

Sometimes I just couldn't believe that my sister and I were thirteen years apart. She was my best friend. She turned to run when she stumbled over some abandoned books in a corner. A picture slid out.

In the picture, Akua was lying on a hospital bed cradling a fresh baby. "Who is that baby?" I asked. "That's you Emmanuel, and that's me at thirteen," she stammered.
